Theme: Understanding the three types of people looking into God’s mirror, and how the Holy Spirit helps us see clearly.
“People of God, I greet you in the name of Jesus. I greet you with the burning water of the Holy Spirit this afternoon. When I say ‘burning water,’ I mean the fire of the Spirit that cleanses and the water of the Word that refreshes. Today, I want to speak about the mirror. What do I mean by the mirror of a believer?”
The Bible speaks about a community of faith. What we see, what we believe, and what influences us—these are the things that help us survive in this world. Where does our inspiration come from? What must we do to live in the ways of God?
But here is the truth: There is a mirror in front of every believer. That mirror reflects who you are, but more importantly, it reflects who God says you can become.
The mirror projects the life you want to live. It projects the person you want to be. Sometimes we put God first in that mirror. Sometimes we don’t. Sometimes we look into the mirror but we are outside the pond—outside the water of God’s presence.
So the question is: How do we know what we are really seeing? How do we move forward?
We look into the mirror by:
Understanding the Word of God
Listening to the Holy Spirit
Being loyal to the things of God
Being attentive (BTS – “being tuned to the Spirit”)The Three Types of People
The Holy Spirit has shown me that there are three kinds of people when it comes to living the ways of God.
These people are praying, worshipping, and believing every day. But they are worshipping a Roman god—a god they built with their own hands, a god of their own imagination. They look into the mirror and see a saint, but God looks and sees a stranger.
Example: You can say “Lord, Lord” every morning, but if your life does not match His Word, the mirror is lying to you.
Matthew 7:21 – “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father.”
These people wake up every day making decisions. One day they move toward God’s ways. The next day they move toward the world. They mix holiness with compromise. They believe in God, but they also hold onto old habits.
They look into the mirror and see two faces. They are confused. They are torn.
*James 1:8 – “A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways.”*
Some of these people know they are walking with God. Others don’t even realize it. They are humble. They don’t boast. They just love, obey, and follow. The mirror reflects Christ, but they are too busy serving to stare at themselves.
This is the goal. This is the destination.
Romans 8:14 – “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”
Of all three groups, only one thing can move them to the right place: The Holy Spirit that Jesus left to help us believe.
Jesus said in John 16:13 – “When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth.”
The Holy Spirit is the one who cleans the mirror. He removes the dust of deception. He wipes away the fog of confusion. He shows you:
Who you really are
Who you are becoming
What you need to leave behind
Life is full of distractions. Life has 40 different voices—40 decisions every day trying to pull you away.
What controls your mirror?
Your environment
Your family history
The way you grew up
The pressure of friends
But listen to me, people of God: You don’t have to let life control your mirror. The Holy Spirit is greater than your past. He is greater than your environment.
Today, the Holy Spirit is asking you:
Are you looking into a false mirror? Thinking you are right with God, but you are far from Him?
Are you looking into a cracked mirror? Double-minded, in between, not sure which way to go?
Or are you looking into the true mirror? The Word of God, the Spirit of God, reflecting the image of Jesus?
I am beautiful to say: I am aware of the deception. I am aware of the enemy’s tricks. God is not about religion. God is about relationship. He wants you to live in His ways, not just think about them.
Heavenly Father, I come in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Help every person listening to this message. Clean the mirror of their hearts. Show them the truth about themselves. If they are living outside Your ways while thinking they are inside, open their eyes. If they are in between, give them courage to choose fully. If they are walking with You, give them peace. Holy Spirit, be the burning water that cleanses and the mirror that shows Jesus. Amen.
“I will not be controlled by life. I will be controlled by the Spirit. Today, I look into the true mirror. I see who I am. And by God’s grace, I will see who I am becoming. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen!”
