Opening Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we come before you as your children. We ask that the Teacher, the Holy Spirit, is in this place. Open our spiritual ears and hearts to receive the truth of your Word today. May we understand what we truly believe, and may it be founded on you alone. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Introduction: The Age of Belief
We are in an age where everyone believes what they believe. But the critical question for us as Children of God is this: Where does our belief come from? Is it from the Holy Spirit, or is it from a system passed down to us?
This creates a constant tension in our lives—a conflict between the fresh voice of the Holy Spirit and the old voices of tradition. Today, we will unravel this conflict and discover how to build our lives on the right foundation.
Point 1: The Two Systems at War in Your Life
There is a war for your belief system.
The Old System: This is what we have adopted from previous generations. It’s the way we’ve always worshipped—whether through traditional ways, religious rituals, or our cultural practices. It’s a system collectively instituted by people we respect. We follow it because it’s familiar, and we trust the people who taught it to us.
The New Teacher: But when you gave your life to Christ, you received a new Teacher—the Holy Spirit. He is our modern teacher, assigned to guide us personally, each and every day.
The conflict happens when our pastor, our parents, or our church tradition tells us one thing, but the Holy Spirit lays a different thought on our hearts. We must understand: people have their own thoughts, but God has His thoughts for you.
This is even why we have so many denominations! God is telling one person to start a ministry in the streets, and another to start one in the marketplace. We are all serving one God, but the individual ministry He has placed inside each of us is unique. The Holy Spirit has assigned a specific purpose to every individual in this room.
Point 2: How the Gift Gets Twisted
When we are born again, we are like the disciples—sent out to preach the Kingdom and win souls. But as we move in God’s power, the enemy seeks to corrupt the gift.
The same anointing, the same scripture, the same gift of God can be manipulated and used in different ways:
Some use it for personal gain.
Some use it for spiritual pride.
Some use it for other impure motives.
And they do it all using the same Bible! How is this possible?
It’s because the Bible was written by the Holy Spirit through prophets in a specific time and place. Jesus didn’t just command us to preach to people who look and think like us; He said, “Go into all the world.” And He didn’t send the message alone—He sent the Holy Spirit with it to help us apply its truth to every culture and every situation.
Therefore, what you believe must not contradict what the Holy Spirit is saying to you now. You need the Spirit to understand the scripture’s context and how to apply it today. Without Him, we end up conflicted, blindly following visionaries and leaders because of their perceived value, rather than following the value God places on His Word in our own lives.
Point 3: The Three Foundations of Belief (The Core of the Message)
So, how do people form their beliefs? There are three primary ways:
Believing by SEEING: This is trusting in the physical, the tangible. You believe the contractor will build the house because you see the foundation. You believe a married couple will have a child because you’ve seen it happen. You believe you are financially blessed because you see your job and your paycheck. This belief is based on evidence.
Believing by HEARING: This is trusting in a person. You believe what your pastor says, what your mentor advises, or what your parent tells you because of the trust and understanding you have in that relationship. Your belief is based on the authority of the speaker.
Believing by SENSING (The Holy Spirit): This is the realm of faith. The Bible says faith is the evidence of things not seen. This is believing what the Holy Spirit reveals to your spirit. It’s a spiritual sense, a deep knowing that goes beyond physical proof or human advice. This is the foundation of our walk with God.
Here is the critical revelation: The spiritual belief—the faith that comes from sensing the Holy Spirit—must come FIRST. Before what you see, before what you hear, you must listen to what the Spirit says. He is the one who lays the foundation and gives you the concept of what to believe.
Point 4: A Serious Warning – Discerning the Source
Children of God, this is not a game. We must be very, very, very careful.
We are not the only spiritual beings on this earth. The Bible tells us about Fallen Angels and the rebellion of the devil. The devil is called the “ruler of this world,” and he can manifest things that look good!
He can paint a picture of a “great life” and a “good thing” to deceive you. He can offer you the very things you think are blessings. He showed Jesus all the kingdoms of the world and said, “I will give you all this.” But Jesus knew the true Kingdom was not of this world.
You must ask yourself: Is the life I’m believing for coming from God, or is it a trap from the enemy? The devil can give you buildings, but he cannot give you a place in the Father’s house.
Conclusion and Altar Call: Putting the Spirit First
So, what must we do? We must reorder our lives.
The Holy Spirit must be the leader of your life.
He must be the title over you—your defining authority.
The very first voice you listen to in the morning, the very first influence on your decisions, must be the Holy Spirit.
When you put Him first, then the promise of Matthew 6:33 comes alive: “All these things will be added unto you.” And “all these things” are not just physical. They are spiritual gifts, physical manifestations, and godly positions. Everything you need will find its proper place when your belief is founded on the Spirit.
Let’s pray. This is an altar call for realignment.
Heavenly Father, we come to you. We ask you to reveal to us—what do we truly believe? Is our foundation sight? Is it the words of others? Or is it your Holy Spirit?
Forgive us for prioritizing systems over your Spirit. Today, we make a decision. We declare that the Holy Spirit is our Leader and our Teacher.
For everyone here who wants to make that declaration, I want you to stand to your feet. Stand up and pray with me:
“Holy Spirit, from this day forward, you are first in my life. Lead me. Teach me. Lay the foundation of true belief in my heart. I will be led by you, and not by sight, not by tradition, but by your voice alone. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
