People of God, today I bring a message that speaks to our purpose and our calling.
We often ask ourselves: What must I do to have eternal life? And more importantly: Are we truly doing the work that God has called us to do?
There is a difference between the work we do in our daily lives and the work we do in the house of God. In our jobs and employment, we work to earn a living. We work to make profit, to sustain ourselves, and to build a future in this world. That is necessary and important. But in the house of God, our purpose is different. We are not working for earthly profit. We are working for eternal reward. Our service, our giving, our love, and our obedience are all investments into eternal life.
Many of us call ourselves children of God, sons and daughters of the Most High—but the question is: Are we living like it? Are we aligned with God’s will? Are we doing the work that leads to eternal life?
Within the body of Christ, there are many roles—pastors, deacons, elders, evangelists, and believers. But the real question is not just about titles. The question is: Are we fulfilling our calling faithfully? Because the Scripture says in John 6:27, “Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you.” People of God, when you work for a company, you expect a paycheck. That is right. But when you work for the Lord, do not expect only earthly recognition. Expect eternal reward.
Now hear me carefully: Eternal work is not something we wait to start after death. It begins now. We are in a training ground. We are learning how to walk with God, how to obey Him, how to align our lives with His will. Just like any job requires training and preparation, our spiritual lives also require growth, discipline, and understanding. The apostle Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 3:13-15 that “their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work.” So I ask you: If your work for God was tested by fire today, would it survive? Or would it burn up like wood, hay, and straw? Do not wait until you die to start your eternal job. Start now. Pray now. Serve now. Love now. Obey now.
But there is something else we must understand. God speaks to us every day, but are we listening? Are we aligning ourselves with His voice? Or are we allowing other influences to guide us? Remember, there are forces that try to distract and mislead us. The devil has a temple. The devil has a system. And that system can manipulate even religious people. That is why we must pray before we serve, asking, “Lord, why am I doing this?” We must check our profit motive, asking, “Am I serving for money, title, or approval?” And we must test our work by eternity, asking, “Will this matter in heaven?”
Because Jesus Himself warned us in Matthew 7:21-23: “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven… Many will say, ‘Did we not prophesy in your name?’ And I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'” Titles do not save you. Intimacy with God saves you. You can be called a pastor and still be lost. You can be called a deacon and still be empty. You can be called an evangelist and still not know the One you preach about. But when we align ourselves with God, everything begins to work in order. Our confusion fades. Our purpose becomes clear. And we begin to do the eternal job faithfully.
So today, I encourage you: Let us not only work for earthly gain, but also for eternal reward. Let us not only identify as children of God, but live as children of God. Let us commit ourselves to the true eternal job—serving God faithfully. Because the work we do for God today will determine our eternity.
I want you to close your eyes right now and ask yourself honestly: Is my service to God bringing me profit in this world only? Or is it storing up treasure in heaven? Have I been wearing a title without intimacy? Am I ready for the fire to test my work? If you need to repent, if you need to realign your heart, come to this altar now. Come and say, “Lord, give me the eternal job. Take my titles. Take my profits. Just let me serve You faithfully.”
Father, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, we thank You for Your Word. Forgive us for working for bread that spoils. Forgive us for chasing titles instead of Your presence. Teach us the difference between earthly profit and eternal reward. Align our hearts with Your will. Help us to start our eternal job today—not tomorrow, not after we die, but right now. Burn away every work that is wood, hay, and straw. Give us gold, silver, and precious stones. And when the fire comes, may we be found faithful. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
Go in peace. Do not work for food that perishes. Work for the eternal life that never fades. Your title does not matter to heaven—but your faithfulness does. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
