A Call to Return to the Heart of God’s Message

PEOPLE OF GOD, SHALOM.
CHILDREN OF GOD, SHALOM.

We glorify the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End, the God who was, who is, and who is to come. Today, I stand not with a sermon of my own making, but with a mandate from heaven’s throne room. In the place of prayer, the Holy Spirit interrupted my petitions with a sobering commission: “Son, help My people understand the true definition of the Gospel.”

We live in days of spiritual confusion, where the sacred has been diluted and the holy has been packaged for consumption. The Gospel is everywhere proclaimed but rarely demonstrated in its transformative power. We have created a Christianity of noise without substance, of form without power, of appearance without authenticity. And heaven is crying out: “Where is the heart?”

1. THE HEART: WHERE GOD’S GAZE FALLS

“The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7)

The first revolution of the true Gospel occurs not in our circumstances but in our hearts. God is utterly unimpressed by spiritual theatrics. Your volume, your duration, your eloquence—none of these move the heart of God unless they flow from a heart genuinely surrendered to Him.

The Holy Spirit revealed something that should awaken every sincere believer: Prayer can be hijacked. When our petitions become performances, when our worship becomes a showcase, when our spirituality becomes a means of building our reputation rather than encountering God’s presence—we have opened the door to religious spirits that mimic godliness while denying its power (2 Timothy 3:5).

You can pray for an hour with heavenly vocabulary, but if in the first minute your heart was not bowed in genuine surrender, you have merely been talking to yourself. Conversely, a whispered “God, have mercy on me, a sinner” from a broken heart can shake the foundations of hell and move the hand of heaven.

The true Gospel begins where performance ends and authenticity begins.

2. THE COUNTERFEIT: A GOSPEL IN DISGUISE

From Eden’s garden to today’s pulpits, Satan’s strategy remains consistent: he doesn’t create new lies; he counterfeits eternal truths. He takes what God declared “very good” and distorts it just enough to lead us away from the Source of all goodness.

Throughout Scripture, a pattern emerges: the majority settle for religion while the remnant pursues relationship. In Noah’s generation, eight souls entered the ark. In Elijah’s day, seven thousand hadn’t bowed to Baal. In Jesus’ time, the religious crowds shouted “Hosanna” on Sunday and “Crucify Him” on Friday, while a handful of disciples abandoned everything to follow Him.

God spoke plainly: “Many prayers sound biblical, but I am not in them. Many fasts appear devout, but I did not call for them.”

We have created Christianized versions of pagan incantations—formulas, steps, and guaranteed returns for spiritual investments. We approach God as a celestial vending machine rather than as our Father. We seek His hand while ignoring His face. This is not the Gospel; this is witchcraft dressed in Christian language.

3. THE CROSS: THE DIVIDING LINE OF DISCIPLESHIP

“Then Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.'” (Matthew 16:24)

Here is where the true Gospel parts ways with every counterfeit: the cross is not an accessory—it is an instrument of execution.

When Jesus issued this invitation, His disciples understood perfectly. The cross meant one thing in Roman-occupied Palestine: death. Not metaphorical hardship, not temporary inconvenience, but the end of everything. To take up your cross meant you were on your way to die, and the only question was when and where.

The modern gospel says, “Come to Jesus and improve your life.”
The true Gospel says, “Come to Jesus and end your life.”

The modern gospel says, “Invite Jesus into your plans.”
The true Gospel says, “Surrender your plans to Jesus as Lord.”

The modern gospel says, “Jesus wants you prosperous and successful.”
The true Gospel says, “Jesus wants you crucified and resurrected into His likeness.”

When the rich young ruler approached Jesus, the Lord didn’t give him a financial blessing or a prosperity confession. He exposed the idol that stood between this sincere seeker and eternal life: “Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me” (Luke 18:22).

Jesus wasn’t condemning wealth; He was confronting misplaced security. He wasn’t promoting poverty; He was prioritizing the Kingdom.

The disciples understood this. They left careers, families, security, and reputation to follow a homeless Messiah who would be crucified as a criminal. They rejoiced when they were counted worthy to suffer disgrace for His name (Acts 5:41). They considered everything a loss compared to the surpassing worth of knowing Christ (Philippians 3:8).

4. REPENTANCE: THE PERPETUAL POSTURE OF THE BELIEVER

“Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.” (Acts 3:19)

This call to repentance is not merely for the unconverted; it is the daily posture of every true disciple. We must continually repent from:

  • Seeking God’s benefits more than His presence

  • Using ministry for personal advancement

  • Confusing cultural values with Kingdom values

  • Measuring spirituality by external metrics rather than internal transformation

Blessings are not the problem—they are gifts from a good Father. But when blessings become our pursuit, they become idols. When God’s gifts captivate us more than God Himself, we have missed the Gospel entirely.

5. THE TRUE GOSPEL DEFINED

The true Gospel is the proclamation that in Jesus Christ, the Kingdom of God has broken into human history. It announces that:

  1. Jesus is King—He conquered sin, death, and hell through His crucifixion and resurrection.

  2. All authority belongs to Him—in heaven and on earth.

  3. He calls everyone everywhere to surrender their allegiance—to transfer citizenship from the kingdom of self to the Kingdom of God.

  4. This transfer results in a new creation—old things pass away, all things become new (2 Corinthians 5:17).

  5. This new life manifests in righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit (Romans 14:17).

  6. This life is marked by cross-carrying obedience—not as a means of earning salvation, but as the evidence of it.

  7. This life finds its ultimate hope not in present comfort but in eternal glory with Christ.

THE INVITATION

People of God, this is the hour of returning. Not to another program, not to another conference, not to another spiritual technique—but to the heart of the Gospel.

Let us pray with David:
“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” (Psalm 139:23-24)

If you need to realign—come.
If you need to repent—come.
If you need to surrender afresh—come.
If you realize you’ve been pursuing a counterfeit gospel—come.

The altar is open. The Spirit is calling. The true Gospel awaits your response.

CLOSING BLESSING:

May the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, restore you, confirm you, strengthen you, and establish you in the true Gospel of the Kingdom. May you be part of the faithful remnant that carries not a diluted message but the undiluted power of God unto salvation.

Go now as crucified people living resurrected lives, as those who have died to self that Christ might live through them, as ambassadors of the only Kingdom that will endure when all others fade away.

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen and amen.
