The Foundation of Christ

Text: 1 Corinthians 3:11 – “For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.”

Introduction: The Question of a Lifetime

People of God, good morning! I have a critical question for you this morning, one that will determine the course of your life, both here and in eternity: What is the foundation of your life?

Every building, every structure, every life is built on something. If you build on sand, when the storms and rains come, the collapse will be great. But if you build on the rock, you will stand unshakable.

Today, the Lord has placed a word in my spirit that is compact and powerful. It is the message of effortless victory and everlasting life. It is for everyone who is tired of a shaky life, for everyone who is searching for solid ground. That solid ground, that unshakable rock, is the person of Jesus Christ. Today, we are going to delve into the most critical subject for every human being: The Foundation of Christ.

(Point 1: The Original Foundation – God’s Blueprint)

To understand why we need Christ, we must go back to the beginning. In the book of Genesis, we see God’s original blueprint for humanity. God formed man from the dust of the earth, and then He did something extraordinary—He breathed His own breath, His ruach, His Spirit, into us. He gave us His image, His authority, and dominion over the earth.

This was the perfect foundation! A life in perfect, unbroken fellowship with God. A life where we walked and talked with Him in the cool of the day. Our spirit was directly connected to our Creator. That was the original design.

But then, tragedy struck. The fall of man happened. Through disobedience, sin entered the world, and that perfect foundation was shattered. The connection with God was broken. The authority was forfeited. Death entered the picture.

But I declare to you this morning: God did not remove His love from us! His original plan was not defeated; it was only paused, waiting for the moment of restoration.

(Point 2: The Repair of the Foundation – God’s Intervention in Christ)

How do you repair a shattered foundation? You don’t just patch it up with religion or good works. You have to go down to the very root and replace it. And that is the story of the Gospel.

God, in His infinite love, launched a rescue mission. He sent the angel Gabriel to a young virgin named Mary and deposited the divine Seed in her womb. This was the miracle of the Incarnation—God Himself, the Word, becoming flesh and dwelling among us. He lived in our neighborhood! Jesus Christ, fully God and fully man, walked this earth. He felt our hunger, our thirst, our pain. He was “a selfie of God in human life,” showing us exactly what the Father is like.

And why did He come? He came with a three-fold mission:

  1. To Preach the Kingdom Life. He came to show us what a life founded on God’s rule looks like—a life of power, purpose, and eternal value, not just for this world, but for our souls and spirits.

  2. To Restore the Connection. He came as the only bridge back to the Father. He said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). He came to revive what was lost in Eden.

  3. To Die as the Final Sacrifice. He came to lay down His life on the cross. He didn’t just die as a good man; He died as the Lamb of God, taking upon Himself the sin of the world to repair the broken foundation once and for all.

(Point 3: The Power of the Foundation – The Blood of Christ)

Now, what is the power that holds this new foundation together? What is the spiritual material that makes it unbreakable? It is the precious blood of Jesus Christ.

The Bible says in 1 Peter 1:19 that we were redeemed “with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.” Church, His blood is not just a symbol; it is supernatural! It has the power to cleanse, to save, to heal, and to deliver.

Do you know why even demonic spirits counterfeit and use blood in their dark rituals? It is because they know the accented importance and power of blood! They tremble at the name of Jesus because they know the power of the blood that was shed on Calvary.

His blood rubs us clean! His blood removes every bad foundation, every generational curse, every stain of sin! They beat Him with rods until His flesh was torn. They pressed a crown of thorns into His brow. They nailed His hands and feet to the cross. He endured all that shame and agony—for you. For me. His blood is the seal upon our new and eternal foundation.

(Point 4: The Necessity of the Foundation – There Is No Other)

So, this leaves us with a critical decision. You can try to build your life on other things—on other religions, on your career, on your money, on your own morality. But the Word of God is unequivocally clear in our main text: “For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.”

Let me be plain: There is no eternal life without Christ. There is no true relationship with God the Father without understanding the Foundation of His Son. He is not *a* way; He is the Way. He is not *a* truth; He is the Truth. He is not *a* life; He is the Life.

The apostles understood this. They saw the risen Christ, were filled with His Holy Spirit, and they turned the world upside down. They faced imprisonment, torture, and miserable deaths, all because they were convinced that Jesus Christ was the only foundation worth building on, and the only foundation worth dying for.

(Conclusion and Altar Call)

So I return to my original question: What is the foundation of your life?

Is it shaking? Is it showing cracks under the pressure of life? Today, the Holy Spirit is calling you back to the one true Foundation.

This is what I want you to do right now. I want you to tell yourself, “The foundation of my life is Jesus Christ.” I want you to humble yourself, bow your head right where you are, and remember the pain He endured, the blood He shed, just to give you a solid place to stand.

Maybe you have never truly built your life on Him. Maybe you’ve been building on the sand of your own efforts, and you’re weary. Today is your day of salvation. In your heart, you can pray:

“Lord Jesus, I believe You are the Son of God. I believe You died for my sins and rose again. I renounce every other foundation. I build my life on You today. Forgive me, cleanse me with Your precious blood, and be the Lord and Foundation of my life.”

Perhaps you are a believer, but you’ve drifted. You’ve tried to build with wood, hay, and stubble on the foundation of Christ. Today, come back to the Cornerstone. Re-dedicate your life to Him.

Let us pray.

Closing Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we thank You for Jesus. We thank You for the unshakable foundation of His life, His death, and His resurrection. Right now, by the power of Your Holy Spirit, make this truth real to every heart. For those calling on Your name for the first time, welcome them into Your family. For those returning, restore them with joy. We declare that our lives are built on Christ, and on Christ alone. In His mighty name we pray, Amen.
